Options Adds 2.8T-Parameter Kimi K3 to PrivateMind

Options Technology has added the Kimi K3 large language model to its PrivateMind platform, giving financial institutions access to one of the industry’s largest open-weight AI models within a private infrastructure designed specifically for regulated environments. The announcement is less about introducing another AI model and more about addressing one of the biggest obstacles preventing wider adoption of generative AI across financial services: institutions want frontier-level models, but they do not want their proprietary data leaving their own controlled infrastructure.

Kimi K3 is now available through PrivateMind at no additional cost for existing customers, joining a growing portfolio of models that banks and trading firms can deploy inside isolated environments without relying on public AI services. According to Options, the model operates inside sandboxed cybersecurity containers hosted across multiple locations, including Iceland, allowing organizations to use advanced AI while keeping intellectual property, trading strategies and sensitive client information within a controlled environment.

Financial Institutions Want Private AI, Not Public Chatbots

Generative AI has become one of the fastest-growing technology priorities across capital markets, but adoption has exposed a difficult trade-off.

Public AI models provide cutting-edge reasoning capabilities but often require users to send prompts and documents to external infrastructure. For banks, hedge funds and trading firms handling confidential client information, proprietary trading strategies and regulated data, that approach raises significant governance, security and compliance questions.

Private AI platforms seek to solve that problem by bringing the models inside environments already approved by institutional security teams.

Rather than asking firms to trust third-party AI providers with sensitive information, platforms such as PrivateMind allow organizations to deploy advanced language models while maintaining control over where data resides, how it is processed and who can access it.

Why Kimi K3 Matters

Kimi K3 has attracted attention within the AI community because it combines frontier-scale capabilities with an open-weight architecture that organizations can deploy independently.

According to Options, the model contains approximately 2.8 trillion parameters and supports a one million-token context window, allowing it to process substantially larger documents and datasets than many earlier language models.

Running a model of that scale requires significant computing resources. Options said each deployment uses NVIDIA B300 hardware, with redundant systems supporting production availability for institutional customers.

The combination gives clients access to a highly capable language model without becoming dependent on a single commercial AI provider, an increasingly important consideration as financial institutions seek flexibility in their long-term AI strategies.

Sovereign AI Is Becoming an Infrastructure Decision

The launch reflects another emerging theme across enterprise AI: sovereignty.

Rather than evaluating language models solely by benchmark performance, organizations increasingly assess where models are hosted, how data is governed and whether deployments can operate independently of external cloud services.

For financial institutions, those considerations often outweigh marginal differences in model accuracy.

Ryan Ballantine, Director of PrivateMind, said the platform combines advanced model performance with private deployment.

“Kimi K3 allows our clients to demonstrate frontier level intelligence at a fraction of the price compared to competitors. Leveraging Kimi through PrivateMind means our clients can access the leading-edge models, while knowing that their IP, data and security is protected.”

AI Is Becoming Part of Trading Infrastructure

The announcement also illustrates how AI is becoming another layer of institutional trading infrastructure rather than a standalone technology experiment.

Options has gradually integrated artificial intelligence alongside networking, cloud computing, cybersecurity and monitoring services already used by banks and trading firms. Recent developments include hosting PrivateMind at atNorth’s Iceland data centre, expanding AtlasVision monitoring capabilities and deploying the platform at a major Tier 1 bank.

That broader strategy reflects how financial institutions increasingly view AI. Instead of purchasing isolated chatbot products, firms are embedding language models into research, software development, operations, compliance and customer support while managing them through the same infrastructure governance frameworks applied to other critical technology.

Danny Moore, President and Chief Executive Officer of Options, said expanding the platform forms part of the company’s broader innovation strategy.

“From our inception, our strategy has always been to continually innovate to deliver new value to our customers and Kimi K3 is no different. This launch underlines Options’ commitment to providing the best-in-class technology solutions to our clients, including the integration of monitoring dashboards, the Artemis MDR and SOC security platform, and the AtlasVision platform and now Kimi K3, secure, cutting-edge sovereign AI, at no additional cost.”

The Competitive Landscape Is Changing

The race among enterprise AI providers is shifting away from simply offering access to the latest models.

Increasingly, competitive differentiation depends on how those models are deployed, integrated and governed inside regulated organizations. Financial institutions want the flexibility to evaluate multiple language models, avoid dependence on individual vendors and maintain consistent security controls regardless of which model they ultimately choose.

That trend is encouraging infrastructure providers to position themselves as AI orchestration platforms rather than model developers.

By adding Kimi K3 alongside other supported models, Options is betting that financial firms will increasingly prioritize secure deployment, operational resilience and vendor flexibility over exclusive access to any single foundation model. As AI adoption moves from experimentation into production across capital markets, those infrastructure decisions may prove as important as the models themselves.
